Congratulations Gaby!
​​Gaby has been active in sport playing soccer for the past nine years. She demonstrates a strong work ethic and determination, having to work for everything she achieved. It can be difficult to stay positive when set-backs happen and Gaby has demonstrated commitment and dedication as she fought her way back onto the NDC team. Like Ashley, Gaby dreams of playing for the Canadian National Team one day.
Another stand-out characteristic is her concern for others. Always ready to cheer others up when they are feeling down, she is committing this concern for others to more serious pursuits as she begins studies with the goal of becoming a human rights lawyer. Gaby will be continuing her soccer career at University of Winnipeg while she begins her studies. Gaby's caring and fun-loving nature and positive attitude in face of adversity are synonymous with the Ashley Schlag Memorial Scholarship selection criteria.

And a very special thank-you to all this year's applicants. Reading through your applications made us realize what a special young women are involved in the sport Ashley loved so much. It was a difficult decision and we wish all of you could have won!
